The third and final Webinar in a series focused on social media for coalitions was scheduled for this afternoon. We were ready to go, when things got "a little squirrely."
As I hit the mute button on the telephone to eliminate extraneous noise during the presentation half the country away, a small grey creature--whom I've lovingly named Sammy--took the stage. In a split second, our presenter, LaDonna Coy was gone and I was left to reassure our participants that we'd clear up the glitch and get things started in just a minute or two. (You can read LaDonna's account of the events on the Techology in Prevention blog)
Little did I know that Sammy Squirrel had stepped into the transformer outside of LaDonna's home, leaving her (and her neighborhood) without power. As options such as trying to complete the session on her Iphone ran through LaDonna's mind, I talked. Early in my career I worked for a small radio station and if I learned one thing, it was that you never allow "dead" air--that deafening silence that makes listeners wonder what's happening. I thank all of our participants who stuck it out until we got LaDonna's news and it was obvious that our only option was to postpone the session.
We've rescheduled the session for Thursday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m. EST, and we hope you'll join us. LaDonna has a great presentation planned that can offer tremendous opportunities for our coalitions. And if some of what you hear seems a little squirrely--well, that's just par for the course!
